Selling a car is a quick and easy process these days. However, in all the rush, papers can get left in the glove compartment that you shouldn’t have forgotten. New cars also contain a lot of personal data that you should clean up before handing over the car to the new owner. So remember at least these things when you sell your car.

Organize your maintenance receipts and car documents

The most common place to leave your car’s maintenance and repair history is the glove compartment. It’s a good idea to go through your receipts and inspection papers and arrange them in chronological order, from oldest to newest, so that it’s easy for the new owner to go through the car’s history. What many people don’t remember, however, is that the papers often contain personal information, such as your name and address. So it’s a good idea to at least cross out any personal information that you don’t want the new owner to know – but don’t censor or change the car’s history!

Transfer or remove your ownership from car apps

Today, cars can be controlled with various apps that make life easier on hot summer days and in severe frosts. Remotely starting the air conditioning from a mobile phone, steering wheel heating or even driving the car is possible today. Some people forget to remove their ownership from the car and its app, which can make it a little slower for the next owner to get control of the car. In some cases, for example in private transactions, ownership can be easily transferred to the next driver, but when selling to a dealership, it is often worth removing ownership completely. In addition to ownership, clean up the profiles in the car in advance just in case. The car dealership will attempt to remove them if necessary. However, the profiles most likely contain your personal information, recent navigation destinations and phone calls.

And remove the car from parking apps too…

The time of parking coins is slowly coming to an end and a handful of parking apps have taken their place. Many people have their own car connected to all of them, and several apps also have camera-based parking permits. Parking starts as soon as the camera detects that the car has arrived at the destination and ends when you leave, and the payment is automatically deducted from your account. Using apps is really convenient, but you can get a nasty surprise if you forget to remove your car from them and the new owner unknowingly drives into a camera-recognized parking center. So make sure that the parking apps have up-to-date information.

Check the condition of the equipment included in the car and take everything with you.

You have certainly taken care of your own car, but still check that all the equipment that originally came with the car is included. It is also a good idea to give the charging cables that came with a plug-in hybrid and electric car to the next owner. You can of course keep the extra cables you bought yourself.
