Saka's market overview for 2026: The price of used cars are going to stabilize

As the Market Leader in Car Sales, We Predict Growth in Used Car Market for 2026. While new car registrations hit historic lows in 2025, demand for used cars has accelerated. We're now publishing data on price trends for Finland's most popular models—such as Skoda Octavia and VW Passat—over the past three years.
The year 2026 begins with an interesting situation in the automotive market. Behind us is an exceptional period during which new car sales have lagged. This directly impacts the used car market: well-maintained cars that are 3-5 years old are becoming the most desired currency in the market.
"The used car market now looks very positive. Because few new cars have entered the market in recent years, the availability of used cars has tightened, which has kept resale values exceptionally strong. For consumers, this means a safe purchasing decision, as the steepest price drops are behind us," says CEO Petri Poukkula.

Price Development of Favorite Models 2023-2026: Quality Preserves Value

We've analyzed the price development of the market's "big five." The last three years (2023-2025) have been turbulent, but the forecast for 2026 promises stability.
  • Toyota Corolla: The king of hybrid models has maintained its value best. As operating costs become increasingly important, Corolla demand at Saka is at record pace, reflected in the market's fastest inventory turnover.
  • Skoda Octavia & VW Passat: These trusted Finnish favorites have maintained their position as the backbone of the market. Their price development has been moderate, and they have been popular choices for years.
  • Volkswagen Golf: Golf's value has stabilized after a dip in 2025. Particularly newer electrified models are now in demand.
  • Mercedes-Benz C-Class: This premium segment perennial favorite stands out: the price difference between well-maintained and poorly maintained vehicles has increased. "When pricing, we take into account the car's condition and history," Poukkula adds.

"Finland's Car Fleet Needs a Reformer"

Saka has grown to become the market leader by challenging traditional practices. In 2026, we see Finland's automotive market at a turning point.
"Finland's automotive market is in transition. We no longer compete just on price, but on trust. When our inventory turns over at the market's fastest rate, it's a direct indication that our pricing is fair and our cars are the most desired in the market," Poukkula states.
Transparency is the most important trend of 2026. As prices stabilize, consumers increasingly value data about a car's history and technical condition. "According to our research, the most important criteria for those considering buying a car are the vehicle's condition, transparent pricing, service history, and competitive price. Used car purchases are being considered most right now in the 45+ age group," continues Poukkula.

Forecast: What Will Happen in the Used Car Market in 2026?

We predict that competition will intensify toward the end of the year.
  • Availability: The importance of imported cars continues to grow to meet domestic demand.
  • Prices: We forecast prices to remain stable, making 2026 an excellent time to change cars before a possible rise in used car prices.
