Volkswagen belongs to the Volkswagen Group, which, with all its car brands, is the largest car manufacturer in Europe and the third largest in the world. Appealing, safe, and environmentally friendly vehicles are at the core of the Volkswagen Group.
Volkswagen was founded in Germany in 1937 with the idea that every working German should own a car, and the price of the car was set to match the income level of a German at that time. Volkswagen literally means "the people's car."
From the Beetle to Electric – A Legacy of Continuous Development
The first passenger car manufactured was the iconic Volkswagen Beetle (Volkswagen Type 1), whose newer models are also known by the name Volkswagen Beetle, which is the international name for the Beetle. After the “Beetle-Volkswagen,” the main Volkswagen models became the Volkswagen Passat, introduced in 1973, and the Volkswagen Golf, introduced a year later.
Over years of development, Volkswagen's production has included vehicles meeting many different needs, from pickup trucks to minibuses. Like many other car manufacturers, the list of power sources has also received hybrid options and electric power, whose models are recognized by the ID prefix in the name.
