K1-Katsastus: The information needed to identify the vehicle, along with the station where the inspection was carried out.

Basic information inspector details

Body, Identification and Visibility

Recognition basket and interior
What it covers: Vehicle identification number (VIN), registration plates, windscreen, side windows, mirrors and wipers, body structures.
Why it matters: Together, the body and chassis form the safety cage that protects passengers. Rust damage and deformation can weaken the car's crash safety and structural strength. A test drive and a visibility check confirm that the windscreen is clear and in good condition, as well as that the wipers work properly.

Chassis and Steering

Technical condition
What it covers: Ball joints and control arms. The function of the steering, engine and transmission.
Why it matters: To keep the car safe in every driving situation and behaving predictably, it's important to confirm that the suspension, steering and brakes are working properly.

Measurements and Diagnostics

Measurements and other information
What it covers: The car's electronic diagnostic system (OBD), the mechanical performance of the brake system tested on a brake dynamometer, and the tyre tread.
Why it matters: This section brings together the results from all the different measuring equipment. An OBD reader confirms there are no hidden fault codes in the engine electronics. The brakes are tested on a brake dynamometer to check for balanced, safe braking performance, and the tyre tread depth is checked.

EV Battery

Electric or hybrid car inspections
What it covers: The external protective casing of the high-voltage (traction) battery and the high-voltage cables connected to it.
Why it matters: Damage to the battery's protective casing or to the cables can expose the system to moisture and impacts, which can cause insulation faults, short circuits, a risk of electric shock or a fire hazard. The high-voltage system may have been damaged if damage is visible on the outside. Note that for combustion-engine vehicles, this section is left empty.
